A decent primer on the subject, but not a good reference

The book presents a short introduction about analyzers and the types of circuits they typically contain and some of the functions they typically perform. It then presents QST reviews (edited reprints) of about a dozen specific units and gives charts making comparisons among a few units in a class (generally, a price range). It covers this material very well. It does not instruct you in how to use an analyzer or how to perform specific tasks with specific units. It also does not make any "buy" recommendations and instead presents data and urges users to select a unit that meets their needs. Having said that, the RigExpert AA-30 comes across as the clearly superior unit and the MFJ-269 as the clearly typical/common unit (at least, that's my impression from reading the book).
One other oddball feature of the text is the presentation of a few non-typical ways you might use an analyzer (as a frequency counter or as a signal source) and also presents a very few non-standard modifications to specific units. It's a good "primer" book to read but it's not going to be a reference beyond the purchase of an analyzer. A great book to check out from the library.

Nice and Useful Little Book

Most of the value in this book is having about a dozen antenna analyzer reviews from QST magazine in one place. This book should be helpful to someone who just bought an antenna analyzer and needs some help getting started. There is not very much in this book beyond the basic impedance and voltage standing wave ratio measurements, but many antenna analyzer users do not go beyond this anyway.
If there ever is a second edition, it should include discussions on how to use some of the other features in modern antenna analyzers along with more details why these measurements are important and how to interpret them.
Contrary to most of the other reviews of this book, it is not overpriced when you consider what you get nowadays from book publishers. One of the problems is that, by the time ARRL adds all their overhead and profit, nothing they sell is cheap. The author would have been better off going to one of the self-publishing companies but then he probably would not have been able to obtain permission from ARRL to reprint those reviews. So pay your money and take your choice.

I was disappointed

I thought that this book would show me some good things that I could do with my analyzer. I was wrong. Should have read the title more carefully. It really explained how it works and not much about using it. As a general or extra ham, you should already know this stuff. It has some good points that explain set readings. If your looking for a good review of what anaizaler to buy it could be helpfully.
