Akshay Manwani has done a commendable job of introducing the legend, Sahir, behind a plethora of immortal songs. He brings Sahir alive & what is nice is that he treats Sahir as a multi layered person, with obvious flaws & great writing flair.
Sahir comes across as a quixotic person who did not know what he wanted in his personal life but was very confident about his Urdu shayari.
In all, a nice book for those wanting to know the man & the poet, Sahir.

Sublime

Sahir is my favourite poet. After reading the book, I found that most of the songs I love have been written by him. His repertoire is immense and the language delicate. Since I am not proficient in Urdu, I started looking up the meanings of some of the words he has used in his songs. My all time favourite 'Tum na jaane kis jahaan mein kho gaye' is by Sahir. His poetry touches parts of your soul that you didnt know existed. Sublime.
