Seeing exactly what's before us is critical to building the 'Right Vision.' Womack's new book adds to his earlier & still valuable "Gemba Walks", 12 new - highly relevant - essays. They include the facts about the emergence of 'Lean' - as told by the man who was there making it happen. There is no further need to rely on the multitude of hearsay versions. Of high interest is the essay shedding clarity into why 2014 is the 100th anniversary of true 'Lean' which began in Highland Park MI. He provides the facts from which he bestows on that first site as the true "Temple of Lean' - much of which can be found today in the world-leading Toyota Production System. For many, this will be eye-opening as he puts into perspective the last 25 years of lean. But this edition stays true to the earlier edition driving home to leaders the shear power of 'Gemba Walks' to enable them to see what is really there. The experience shared in this book is invaluable and i have gained lot of knowledge. The examples about Lean implementation in TVS Group (Brakes India) and Wabco-TVS is an eye opener. It shows clearly that Leadership vision and employee engagement is paramount for successful Lean implementation in any geography. Do not try to get into the trap of implementation...study yourself and adapt it to your condition...Thats how TVS group is successful...
A Must read for all Leadership....Deming's philosophy of "System Thinking of profound knowledge" holds true still...Leader who have not practiced and experimented himself (Servant Leadership) cannot able to implement or sustain Lean...

Yes, this is a great reference for managers whose responsibility is to help identify and solve problems,
it provides enough thought provoking ideas that help in asking the right questions. and learning to look for value & waste
the learnings can be used at any industry or sector and is not for manafacturing alone.
I have used the knowledge to help coach other members when i go to the Gemba, thanks a lot
